Paraburdoo

We acknowledge the traditional owners and custodians of the land Paraburdoo is situated on, the Yinhawangka people.

The origin of the name ‘Paraburdoo’ comes from the local Indigenous word Pirupardu meaning ‘meat feathers’ because of the large population of white corellas in the area.

Originally built in the early 1960’s as a mining town, Paraburdoo remains a small mining town today. Paraburdoo has an interesting history regarding discovery of 200-year-old ancient bones, the Royal Family visits and even UFO Sightings!
