Tom Price

Standing tall at 747m above sea level, Tom Price is officially the highest town in Western Australia. Tom Price is home to Mt Nameless (1,128m) or Jarndunmunha.

Tom Price has all the things you’d need for an awesome holiday and a good night’s sleep. There are plenty of dining options for breakfast and dinner, visit Australia’s oldest drive-in cinemas, the 18-hole golf course or the local swimming pool.

Tom Price is centrally located between three of the State's best National Parks - Karijini, Millstream Chichester and Mount Augustus.

Mining

Iron Ore mining is the beating heart of Tom Price and a visit to the Rio Tinto open-cut mine is an absolute ‘must do’. The sheer scale of this mine is impressive, being one of the largest open-cut iron ore mines in the world. During a 90-minute tour, visitors experience the working trucks, shovels and drills, the crushing and screening plants and the train load out area.

Attractions

Pack a picnic and head out to Kings Lake - a popular recreational area located in a natural bush setting with barbeques and gazebos. This is a popular spot for bird watching and for sitting back and taking a break.

Mt Sheila is another great hike and viewpoint. Located about 1 hour from Tom Price, on the Rio Tinto Access Road (permit obtained from the Tom Price Visitor Centre), Mount Sheila offers spectacular views looking out over the Hamersley Ranges. Access is 4WD only.

Mt Nameless

Located 4km from town, Mt Nameless offers panoramic views of the Tom Price town site and the Hamersley Iron Mine. Mt Nameless is best visited at sunrise or sunset. You can hike or 4WD your way up to witness the breathtaking views and colours of Tom Price. The walk is a 2.5 hour return trip so remember to take water with you. The 4WD track is also only recommended for experienced drivers due to steep inclines and unstable terrain.

Tom Price Visitor Centre

The Tom Price Visitor Centre is located on Central Road, next to the Tom Price Library, right in the centre of town. This is the place to go for information about Tom Price, Karijini, Millstream Chichester, tours and accommodation.

Permits for the Rio Tinto Private Rail Access Road are available here, as well as showers and toilets next door.
